Stay Safe On The Roads While Celebrating The New Year With These Tips

Christmas has almost arrived, and before we know it, 2020 will finally be gone. With the new year fast approaching, plenty of people are probably making plans to celebrate. Perhaps they have parties to go to, or maybe they wish to head out for a rememberable night on the town. Whatever the case may be, Floridians should do everything in their power to remain safe on the roadways. The last thing anybody wants is to start 2021 off with a crash. Therefore, this post will focus on some tips to help people avoid catastrophes. This is a law blog, though, so before getting to them, let's get some other stuff out of the way. If you happen to get into a wreck with a negligent driver, you might be entitled to fair compensation regardless of the time of year. The money can help offset medical bills, property damage, lost wages, and more.

You must prove that negligence occurred and was responsible for your injuries. Don't fret if that sounds like a tall order. That is where an accident lawyer comes into play. The professionals gather and collect evidence to build concrete cases. They fight tooth and nail on the behalves of their clients to recover the compensation they deserve. Our firm has been representing the injured in Port Charlotte, Fort Myers, and surrounding areas for over 30 years, and we will gladly do the same for you. Now, without further delay, let us discuss the tips.

Don't Drink Or Do Drugs And Drive

Parties, bars, and clubs often have alcoholic beverages and drugs. Whether the items are legal or illegal, if you plan on consuming, smoking, or snorting them, do yourself a favor and don't get behind the wheel of a car. The substances can leave you impaired and unable to operate a vehicle safely. In turn, you could end up in a ditch somewhere, or worst, hit a car, pedestrian, or bicyclist.

Instead of driving in such a condition, how about having a friend be the designated driver for the evening? If you do not have a trustworthy BFF, utilize a rideshare service. There is also the option of calling a cab. Any of these ideas are better than driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Obey The Speed Limit

So, you aren't going to be drinking or doing drugs but will be driving. If that is the case, try not to put the pedal to the metal. Many times, crashes occur because of speeding. Going a little too fast may prevent you from being able to stop when traffic comes to a screeching halt. That could cause you to rear-end someone else, and that is no way to start a new year off.

Additionally, if a cop pulls you over for driving over the speed limit, he or she will likely write you a ticket. Surely you have better things to spend your money on than paying fines. Take things nice and easy to avoid headaches altogether.

Don't Answer That Text Or Take That Call

Phones pose major distractions to drivers in cars. If they get lost in a conversation, an accident can arise. Meanwhile, when they direct their gaze to screens to read texts instead of roads, disasters can strike in the blink of an eye. Turn your phone off while driving around this New Year's Eve to keep crashes at bay. If that doesn't work for you, at least pull over and park at a safe location before using the phone.
