Did you know that June is National Safety Month, #NationalSafetyMonth? It's true. What does that mean? The annual month-long observance in the United States is designed to help people keep each other safe in the workplace and elsewhere. That's why we're going to be offering up some tips on how Venice citizens can spot risks at work and in their community that could lead to accidents and injuries.

 What happens when employees and other folks don't watch each others' backs? Sometimes nothing, but on different occasions, accidents occur. Keep Your Eyes Open For Texting And Driving



Many people carpool to work with their co-workers. Doing so helps them save money and do their part to save the Earth. However, if the driver decides to pull out their cell phone to text, that puts them, the passengers, and others on the roadway at risk. It is never a good idea for a person to divert their attention to a phone screen to read a text while driving. 

 Yet, folks do it every day. Be observant when somebody else is driving. If they attempt to use their phone, ask them not to. All you have to do is use your eyes and mouth for this task, and you may be able to reduce risks within your community.

Watch For Spills



A slip and fall accident can happen in a workplace in the blink of an eye if a liquid gets spilled and not cleaned up. If your office has a kitchen area where coffee is made, and you regularly head in there to grab a cup, be careful not to spill it. However, if it does spill, take the time to mop the puddle up, as that minor effort could prevent yourself or somebody else from taking a tumble. 

 When you enter the restroom at work and notice water on the floor, notify the janitorial and maintenance departments of the issue. It's the little things that matter, so improve the safety standards at your workplace by identifying risks. Slip and fall accidents can cause broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, and more. Therefore, you should try your best to keep them at bay.

Campaign To Have A Stop Sign Placed At A Dangerous Intersection



Do you know of a dangerous intersection in Venice? Are there regular car crashes there, or did someone get struck and killed by a vehicle in that spot? Yes, then you have already identified a risk to the community. Now, the question is, "What are you going to do about it?" You could sit around twiddling your thumbs, but while doing so, something else might happen at the intersection.

 Instead, reach out to local officials and plead your case. Tell them why the intersection needs a stop sign and recruit others to do the same. With any luck, you'll get your stop sign and stop disasters from striking.

Speak To Your Employer About The Dark Parking Lot



Parking lots are creepy enough as it is, but when they aren't brightly lit at night, it can be that much worse. Criminals could be hiding in the shadows, waiting to pounce on you and your co-workers. When that happens, people can get injured or even lose their lives. Therefore, if you experience a darkness problem in the parking lot at work, bring it to your boss's attention and see if they'll spring for lights. That can make things a whole lot safer for everyone.
